Saskatchewan Building Trades, Annual Regina Labour Day Picnic

The Labour Day Picnic was initiated four years ago by Lorne E. Andersen when he became the Business Manager for the SMW Local 296. He continues in this effort and still proudly serves as the Picnic Chairman to this day. The Picnic started in 2009 with just the Building Trades participating and several hundred people showed up. Last year (2012) they had a lot more of the Saskatchewan Unions participating and several thousand people in attendance. Lorne Andersen's goal is to have all labour organizations represented at the Picnic, and to have tens of thousands of people in attendance.
The Picnic is on the lawn in front of the Legislative Buildings in Regina and is a carnival style atmosphere. Most Unions put up a tent or instant garage and decorate accordingly. Labour Unions are asked to operate and cover the costs of their own venues to maintain offering the Picnic totally free to the public.

“We Are Labour, and Labour Day Is Our Day”
